Root Eradication

My main project today was to make some progress on that damn root.

Here is how it looked a few days ago.

Here is how it looked at the end of today.

I am fairly happy with the results, but I still have a lot of work to do. You can see I have a large section of it cut out. That is primarily thanks to Mr. Sawzall.

I started the day with another fire. I was dowsing the root with charcoal lighter fluid when I thought of a new plan of attack.

I got a log and placed it on top of some carefully laid kindling on the side of the root. My hope was, it would burn for a while, creating some hot coals on the root that would smolder for a while.

It kind of worked but not as completely as I was hoping for.

By now, I've burned enough of it away to cut through with a long course blade on the Sawzall.

Tomorrow, I hope to work on the section next to the sidewalk but I'm going to let that burn a little more.
