Assorted Disjointed Thoughts

Good Sunday. Slept in, enjoyed the newspaper and morning coffee, and worked on the house. Watched the snow melt for a while too. It's been warm lately but I still have a good six inches on the lawn.

Academy Awards last night. Watch em but don't know why. We haven't seen a single nominated movie. Hell, we haven't seen any movies PERIOD! I take that back. We saw "The Bucket List" a couple of weeks ago.

Tonight I'm priming a window. From the bathroom of course. Removed the glass and stripped it to wood. It's clean and pretty and ready to accept some stain.

Ran tonight. One mile. 11 minutes, 33 seconds. Not bad for a first night out. I'll get better. Frankly, I'm impressed that I ran a mile.

Obligatory Post

Every once and a while I will make an entry here simply because I haven't written an entry in a long time. Today is an example of such an entry.

That is not to say that I have nothing to report. I feel compelled to report.

We are making great progress in the bathroom. The shower is on the threshold of being near the point where it is conceivable that in the near future it will almost entirely, but not quite be finished.

We are making steady progress on scraping the paint off the window sills and trim. Susan is doing a much better job on her scraping than I am. She will have lots of wood putty repair to fill my many small gouges.

I am amazed at how many layers of paint we are removing. On some pieces, much of the trim detail is lost beneath the many thick layers of paint. I sure hope the next people who come along and remodel this house will appreciate the time we have taken to make things easier for them.

I leave you now with some Shower Eye Candy. If you have spent any time at all reading these entries, you know that I am a Fiendish Old Maniacal Gooseberry when it comes to Before and After pictures. So I give you a retrospective of the shower from July 2007 to Today 2008.

The Meltdown Begins?

It was a busy and eventful weekend.

Let's start with the weather. It looks like we are in store for a warming trend. It was in the 40s yesterday and the snow on the streets around the house is turning to sloppy mush. I pulled out the snow blower and did a little maintenance on the street in front of the drive way. I figure the more I am able to move it to the side and out of the street, the less sloppy it will be...at least in front of the driveway.

We continued work on the bathroom. Phil is very close to finishing the tiling in the shower. I know I have said that before, but now he is very very close.

Additionally, we are very close to being done scraping the windows. I should have my part all finished in the next couple of days.

Another Snow Storm

There were about three inches on the ground when I went out to snow blow this morning. It was just after 6AM when I fired up the Snow Cruncher 5800 and began to clear the neighborhood. The bad part was all the wind. It kept blowing the snow back on me.

Anyway, I cleared the whole block and part of the alley. I am beginning to feel the twinges of frustration with this snow. We have a LOT on the ground. I think I read in the paper the other day that this is the third most snowy winter in recorded history...which is about 100 years.

Perhaps frustration is not the right word. I really love the snow and I love clearing the snow. But it is growing tiresome to some extent. It looks like we are going to have snow on the ground for a looooooong time.

Super Bowl Hangover

We are in between storms right now so I had a chance to do some maintenance work on the driveway yesterday. It was a nice sunny day which allowed me to chip away a great deal of the ice that has built up. Now my pavement is visible again and I'm happy.

Susan and I watched the Super Bowl at Scotty's Bar & Grill, a little bar in the Spokane Valley that I visit and am semi-employed by. I was hoping to see history made and so was pulling for the Patriots. I'm not vested enough in either team to care a whole bunch so neither Susan or I were terribly upset when the Giants won. It was a good game and we had fun at the bar.

There were lots of Law Enforcement Officers out on patrol as we drove home. I saw two separate cars with somebody pulled over on the freeway and then three more cars just out and about as we drove up Division street.

I was glad I not over imbibed.

Another snow storm is forecast for tomorrow. I have the snow blower all tuned up and ready to go.
