Staining, Scraping, Steaming, and Drinking

Susan continued removing wall paper today.

I did some stuff too. I don't see that it's any of your business though.

Okay, that was pretty harsh. Sorry! I have a bit of an attitude going and I guess I should explain.

I would like to know what the reasoning would be behind painting over stained wood with latex paint. And not just one coat...several coats. I do not understand that kind of thinking in a house such as this. The style of the house is Craftsman, after all. A Craftsman is a Craftsman because if the woodwork. A Craftsman become a Paintman when you add latex. Or in this case, lead based paint infused with asbestos. Asbestoman?

I understand orange shag carpet. It was the 70's and everyone was stoned! Fortunately, we came down from the high.

And now, we are getting over the latex. But it is not easy. I'm getting high breathing the fumes. It takes quite a bit of paint remover to get this crap up.

My biggest problem is that I'm not patient enough to let the stuff work for 15 or 20 minutes. I'm trying to develop my patience more better-er.

This idea of painting things that are fine the way they are is actually a kind of mental disorder. Medical specialists to this day disagree what causes it, but most experts think it's paint fumes that bring it on. People want to smell paint so they open a can of it. After huffing on it for 10-20 minutes, they grab a brush and just start painting whatever's close at hand. Mick Jagger is the only really successful person I know of who had this problem. Most huffers are utter failures. Mick wrote a song about his affliction called, "I saw a red door and I wanted to paint it black." Thing was he didn't have any black paint so he ended up painting the damn thing chartreuse. A sad business.
